The town also gained national notoriety in 2005 when James Loewen's "Sundown Towns: a Hidden Dimension of Racism in America" was published. The textbook details efforts by early Edina residents to relocate their African-American neighbors and encourage would-be neighbors to find housing elsewhere through use of a racial exclusionary clause in real estate documents as well as other methods.
